Hedge calculator: compare two settlement outcomes
Enter an existing cash bet and the current price of its opposite outcome. Compare the extra stake with the combined net result in each of the two scenarios.
YOUR EXAMPLE
Amounts use the same currency as your stake. No currency conversion is applied.
Leave this blank to balance the two outcomes, or enter an amount to compare its effect.
THE CALCULATION
- Calculated balancing stake
- 33.33
- Total staked
- 53.33
- Net result if original outcome wins
- 6.67
- Net result if opposing outcome wins
- 6.66
Each net result subtracts both stakes. The balancing amount is rounded to cents, so the two results can differ slightly. A negative number is a loss after both stakes.
This model uses two opposing outcomes that cover the whole market. A draw, void, partial settlement, exchange commission or a third possible outcome needs a different calculation.
The balancing-stake calculation
For two mutually exclusive outcomes that cover every possible settlement, a balancing stake is original stake × original decimal odds ÷ opposite decimal odds. With C$20 at 3.00 and the opposite outcome at 1.80, the unrounded second stake is C$33.333…. Rounded to C$33.33, the original outcome gives C$6.67 combined profit and the opposite outcome gives approximately C$6.66.
The combined result subtracts both stakes. It is different from the profit displayed beside the second ticket alone. The calculator shows the two results after rounding so a small difference remains visible.
When two outcomes cover the market
Use the same event, period and settlement definition on both tickets. A two-way match winner including overtime differs from a three-way regulation-time market. Opposing spread lines can also leave a gap, middle or push, so they are not automatically an exhaustive pair.
This model does not include a draw, dead heat, void, partial settlement, exchange commission or a changing price while a bet is being accepted. If any applies, the two displayed scenarios no longer describe every result.
Read a negative result as a cost
A balancing stake can leave both outcomes negative. For C$20 at 2.00 and an opposite price of 1.80, C$22.22 of additional stake produces about C$2.22 of combined loss either way. Compare that cost with keeping the original ticket and with any actual Cash Out quote; a calculator result does not execute or guarantee either option.
