What does a void bet mean?
Start with the status shown in the bet history. A void result says that the selection will not be settled as an ordinary win or loss. It is different from an unsettled ticket, where the outcome is still pending, and from a rejected request that was never accepted. The return also depends on whether the stake was cash, a free bet or another promotional balance.
For a fictional cash single with a £12 stake at decimal odds of 2.40, a win would return £28.80 including the stake. If the whole single is instead void and the stake is refunded, £12 comes back and net profit is £0. The refund does not include the potential winnings printed on the original ticket.
A void leg in an accumulator: a worked example
Where the ticket rules remove a void selection and leave the other legs standing, the arithmetic is equivalent to replacing that leg's decimal odds with 1.00. Funbet's football rules use 1.00 for a refunded total or handicap selection inside a combination. BetWhale's racing rules also describe affected combos being recalculated without a cancelled event, subject to their rescheduling exceptions.
Consider an illustrative £15 accumulator with three independent selections at 2.00, 1.60 and 1.75. If all three win, the return is £15 × 2.00 × 1.60 × 1.75 = £84. If the third selection becomes void under a remove-the-leg rule and the other two win, the return becomes £15 × 2.00 × 1.60 × 1.00 = £48. The resulting profit is £33 after subtracting the original £15 stake.
A void leg does not turn the remaining selections into winners. If a surviving leg loses, an ordinary accumulator still loses. These numbers demonstrate a particular settlement model; they do not determine a same-event builder's pricing or a system bet's separate component stakes.
Why Bet Builder needs a separate check
A Bet Builder combines markets from one event, so its handling of a missing or void selection can differ from an ordinary multi-event ticket. In Funbet's section 16.23, a void selection voids the whole builder by default. A different option selected before bet acceptance permits repricing with that selection removed while the others continue.
The useful record is the accepted ticket and its chosen setting. Do not calculate a revised builder quote by dividing the original price by one displayed selection: that operation assumes a pricing relationship the bookmaker has not necessarily used. Read the revised terms and price actually attached to the accepted bet.
Does a postponement automatically void a bet?
A delay, a cancellation and an event that starts but is abandoned are separate situations. The applicable rule can define a completion window, a venue condition or an exception for a sport. A match disappearing from the live list therefore does not by itself tell you how an accepted ticket will be settled.
BetWhale's racing rules, for example, retain bets when a postponed race is rescheduled at the same venue within 48 hours, while other stated abandonment, venue-change and postponement cases have cancellation rules. That is a racing example. It should not be applied to football, tennis or a different bookmaker without their own relevant terms.
An unfinished match can contain a completed market
Alfobet's football rules illustrate the distinction with corners. A first-corner market can remain valid once the first corner has occurred before abandonment; a last-corner market is void when the match ends early. One outcome has already been established, while the other depends on the completed match.
Imagine the first corner is taken in minute eight and the match later stops permanently in minute 35. The first-corner question can already have an answer. Calling the most recent corner the final corner would answer a different question from the scheduled full-match market. Always identify the actual market before applying an event-wide label.
Void bets, Cash Out and promotional stakes
Cash Out is an accepted early settlement at an offered amount. A void result follows the applicable cancellation or settlement rule. Both can change the account balance, but they are different operations with different records. Neither status by itself describes a transfer to a bank or external wallet.
For a free bet or bonus stake, check the promotion's refund, re-credit and expiry wording. Returning a promotional token and returning a cash stake are not interchangeable. The examples above assume ordinary cash stakes and no promotional multiplier, insurance or special boost.
How to check a settlement clearly
Use the ticket history and the rule in force for that market. If the displayed result needs clarification, ask which clause was applied and how the returned amount was calculated. A precise question is easier to resolve than comparing the balance with an earlier potential-win figure.
- Record the event, market title, period, stake type and accepted ticket reference.
- Check whether the status is pending, void, settled or an accepted Cash Out.
- For a larger ticket, identify the surviving legs and any Bet Builder setting.
- Read sport and market exceptions before applying a general postponement rule.
- Separate the stake returned, any winnings and a later withdrawal request.
